River barge Freya.

Overview

Freya resembles a 1960s river barge, scratch built after what I've seen cruising on the rivers Neckar, Main, Rhine and the Kiel Canal. The deckhouse will be fully furnished, everything except for the electronics and drivetrain will be 3D printable with the largest part being 160x100x200mm.

The ship will be driven by two motors on a 12v system with 2.4GHz radio control.

Her beam will be 16cm ,the length over all 1.6m and her scale is set to 1:50.

She can be separeted in the middle making her two parts around 80cm in length for easy transport and storage. Both halves are held together by magnets and centering pins.

Take scroll through the progress so far.

11.2022 Details and small parts
Most of the small details are printed and ready for painting.

Most parts were printed in a single run. the railings were printed in pairs or alone since they really loved to peel off the bed prematurely.

Print settings: 0.4mm Nozzle 15% infill 0.12mm layers

09.2023 Painting in progress, rc nearly done.
Several coats of paint and hours of weathering later, small details still need to be painted and the interior furnished.
The underwater hull was painted with a thick brushing varnish to make sure it's watertight whereas the superstructure and  details  were spraypainted. Weathering was achieved with anti-rust coating and matte black paint mixed with aluminium effect paint.
